Fred, having heard the voice off in the distance, drops the book of
spells. He does remember to stop and inform the town drunk Bruno, who had
been transformed into a bear by the dragon where he's going.
"Great, Fred, just leave me like this!" barked Bruno, who thanks to Fred's
amateur efforts at magic, had been transformed into a small dog. "This
isn't me! And who's gonna take me out for a walk?" Fred runs out of the hut and into the streets, dodging pedestrians and the occasional horse-drawn carriage. The teenaged voice is still crying out. After a few anxious minutes, Fred hears a lot of screaming and sees a crowd of people rushing the opposite way. He fights his way through the crowd, and encounters another bear down an alley that is supposed to be a human being. Several of the townsfolk were drunkenly teasing the bear, throwing rocks at him, and waving a lit torch too close to him, keeping him backed against the way. "Get outta here, you beast!" screams the tallest man. Fred has no problem with drawing his sword and chasing the drunkards away. After they've cleared out of the alley, Fred replaces his sword and starts to calmly reason with the bear. "I heard you," Fred tells him. "This is my doing. Come back with me, and I will fix this, I promise you."
