Rebecca Wakes

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 7455

Rebecca opened her eyes. She felt groggy, and her entire body ached. A lingering sensation haunted her... a taste, a touch, an image she couldn't hold onto, couldn't remember, couldn't place. She tried to shake it off, to clear her thoughts, to steady herself, but she couldn't.

Darkness. The room around her was dark, and silent, save a slow, steady breathing. She felt warmth next to her, felt a body, felt it breathing in, breathing out, rythmically. Who was it? She couldn't remember.

Where was she? How had she come here? She couldn't remember that, either. A blank, a void in her memories, where the previous night should have been. What had she done to put such a gaping hole in her memory? She couldn't remember.

She couldn't remember the previous day, either. Or the day before that, or the day before that. She couldn't remember anything, she realized with a rising panic. Her mind was blank, completely emptied of memories. She could remember her name; nothing more.

She sat up with a suddenness that caused the person lying next to her to stir. "'Becca?" She heard a man's voice mumble. "'Ut's wrong?"

She didn't respond, but rather stood up and looked frantically around the room. Her eyes, now adjusted to the darkness, saw a large, ornate bedroom, with an equally large and ornate bed. Large windows on one wall looked out onto a dark, night, lit only by a cloud-covered moon, while a large door lay on the opposite wall. This room was foreign to her. Where was she? Who was she?

Glancing down at her body, she realized that she was naked. Suddenly embarassed, turbulent with shame and confusion and fear, she took a sheet from the bed, from the man she'd been lying with, disoriented still and staring at her in confusion, and wrapped it around her.

"Rebecca!" the man repeated, clearer and more awake now. "What's wrong with you?"

Ignoring his protests, Rebecca started walking, then jogging, then running toward the door. Flinging it open, tossing aside one last angry "Rebecca," she ran outside into a large, torch-lit hallway and into the oblivion of the night and of an unfamiliar world.

This was wrong. This was all wrong. Where was she? Who was she? She couldn't remember anything, but she knew that this wasn't right. This wasn't her life. Something was horribly wrong. Choking back panic, she ran through the dark, cold, silent, unfamiliar halls of a mansion... no, a palace that wasn't hers.

Turning a corner, she was suddenly stopped by an armed guard. She guard jumped and began to draw his sword, then sighed, hastily returned his sword to its sheath, and bowed deeply. "Princess Rebecca."

Princ... what? Rebecca's thoughts reeled. If she hadn't already been overwhelmingly confused, this would have made her so. Princess? What did he mean? Surely he coudn't be serious... surely she coudn't be...

"Who am I?" she asked, looking him directly in the eyes with as much authority as she could muster under the cirsumstances.

He hesitated for a moment, staring at her, obviously confused, then said, haltingly, "Why... you're... you're Princess Rebecca... wife of Prince Samuel..."

He was serious... Rebecca closed her eyes, shaking her head, trying to calm herself, to clear her thoughts. Then she returned her gaze to the guard. "Where am I?"

The guard looked almost nervous as he said, "You're... in the Palace of Daria... is something wrong, Princess?"

Daria... something about that name bothered Rebecca... a distant echo of something... some other life. She shivered, then shook her head slowly, utterly confused. What was happening?

  1. Rebecca continued to press the guard with questions.
  2. Rebecca gave up trying to question the guard.
  3. "Maybe you should sit down..." the guard said.
  4. "Rebecca!" she heard a man shout behind her. She turned to see the man she'd woken up with.
  5. Meanwhile, in another part of the storyline, Sir Seeker woke up in the body of a teenage girl. "Not again," he grumbled.
