Casino of Death

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 7428

Impostor-Josh and the unknown knight were chatting away as friendly as could be. L.E. couldn't hear what they were saying but he didn't really care about it. All he wanted was to get the real Josh back into his body. Bunny-Josh trembled in L.E.'s arms, Josh was just as impatient to make the switch. It came as a complete surprise to both of them when impostor-Josh suddenly pulled out his sword and gutted the refugee knight from the Never-Ending-Quest. The now dead knight was even more surprised than they were.

The shocked tourists scattered at the first swish of the deadly blade, fighting to get as far away from the madman as possible. Amanda stopped in her tracks, unnerved by the grisly sight. But L.E. strode right up to the killer in Josh's body. Impostor-Josh turned to him, his bloody sword at the ready, and that's when Bunny-Josh made his move. His strong bunny legs pushed against L.E.'s chest and he propelled himself through the air and straight into impostor-Josh's face. Before the faux-knight could do a thing, Bunny-Josh kissed his pseudo-doppleganger full on the mouth and the next minute found him back in his rightful body.

"YES!" Josh cried out. L.E. rushed up to him and hugged his friend and writing partner. "Josh!" L.E. said joyfully, "you're back!" But before their glad reunion could continue they heard Amanda scream from behind them. "The bunny!!" The little white bunny, which now once again was filled with the spirit of whatever person had resided there when Josh had first kissed it back in Episode 445, sat hunched on its four little legs in the middle of the floor. But it didn't look very cute anymore. It was trembling, shaking, caught in the grip of an epileptic attack. Its furry skin rolled over its body, puffing up, extending itself and then twisting back as if something underneath the skin was trying to get out. The bunny's eyes were glowing a deep red and its whiskered mouth was drawing back in a snarl, revealing rows of very, very pointy teeth.

And then, before their very eyes, the little bunny morphed into a seven-foot-tall floppy-eared killing machine. "Uh, L.E., uhm I think we better do something about this," Josh whispered. "We're Authors dammit!" L.E. barked, "there must be a way we can write ourselves out of this!" "OF COURSE!" Josh shouted and then pulled down the action menu. While 'Kill Mutant Rabbit' was not one of the choices, 'Kill Monster' was. He jabbed his left mouse key and stood back.

But nothing happened. "Aww dude!" Josh wailed. "This CD-ROM must be defective!" L.E. pushed Josh out of the way just as the killer bunny took a swipe at him. "No!" L.E. said excitedly, "don't you see? You're not at home playing a CD-ROM game called Sir Joshua's Quest anymore! In fact, you never were! That was just a trite narrative convention used to get you here. It confused me before, whether or not this story was actually happening to us in Sir Toby's Never Ending Quest reality, or if it was a story-within-a-story about a CDROM game you were playing, but now I see what's really going on." Josh rolled across the floor as L.E. back-flipped in the opposite direction. The killer rabbit was getting closer and they needed to lessen the odds of it getting either of them.

"I'm glad you understand it," Josh said, "explain it to me later. Right now I just want to know how we can kill this thing!"

  1. Suddenly they hear a cheap imitation of a Tarzan yell and The Seeker rushes to their rescue!
