What Demifox Synizn knows of the situation (part 1)

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 6923

"The tale of the Voyager is a definite....grab bag as Probe called it," the little mage explains, remembering . "First, there is the background story of just who the Voyager worked for.

"First, as you have already heard that like the Golems the Voyager and her crew are not of this universe. Nor are they of any of the universes that the Military and/or the Enemy have visited.....else this encounter between so distinctively different groups would not have been so.....abrasive. The Voyager comes from a universe that has several wide spanning empires and quasi-empires. The Voyager worked for what I'd term a quasi-empire, the Federation of Planets. Now, the Federation isn't really an empire, but in reality was a far flung parliamentary democracy. From all accounts, the lifestyle of a Federation citizen was relatively comfortable, and without strife due in large part to such a stable government AND a form of economy that neither I nor Probe can make any sense of. But that aside, this peaceful life may play in part to Voyager's story.

"There are other, more traditional, empires in the universe of the Federation who wanted to expand and conquer....and looked upon the Federation with envy. The Federation, however, wasn't a total collection of twits, for they had within it a paramilitary defense force called Star Fleet. Star Fleet's purpose was also to explore and conduct scientific research, but it was also there to defend the Federation from those who'd dare try to attack the Federation.

"However, there seemed to be some type of appeasement sentiment going on within the parliament, a desire for peace, for a while before the Voyager made her maiden voyage, a group called the Cardasian Empire was making some aggressive sounds, claiming a section of space in some type of border dispute with the Feds. A treaty was drawn up, ceding some of the worlds along to that border to the Cardasians on the assurance that the personal liberties of the citizens of those worlds would not be compromised."

"What kind of fools are these Federation idiots?" Fred muttered, seeing what was to come. "From the sound of it, you lack the backbone to fight for your people....even sell them off in some type of attempt to keep war at bay.....is a sure way to invite these Cardassians to break that flimsy treaty condition! Ancient Rome tried to pay tributes...and other forms of appeasement to the barbarians in order for Rome to keep enjoying it's decadent lifestyle, and it eventually lead to naught. The barbarians destroyed the Roman Empire....or at least hastened it's demise....in the end."

"I assume that the Cardassians have a history of treating non-Cardassians as anything otherwise as equals?" Astra guesses. "I am making an assumption here, but that's why that peace treaty had that stipulation within it....if only to make those Federation fools feel better about the whole deal?"

"Yes to both parts," Demifox Synizn agrees. "Though, to be fair to the Feds....they had just a while ago had a devastating war with a super powerful empire called the Borge and nearly had their intestines served to them for a feast. They were still recovering when the Cardassians started making trouble. I think that they made this treaty to buy time, but that's my opinion. It still doesn't lessen the fact that people were used as tokens in some type of political card game."

Astra and Fred nodded, mulling that over.

"There were those within the Federation - as well as Star Fleet - who felt that what had been done had been wrong, and sided with a small group of rebels within the group of ceded worlds who had formed to combat the Cardassians when the Cards actually did start to oppress the non-Cardassians of those new worlds. This group called themselves the Marquis, and found that they were getting aid, some of it not very obvert, from those within Star Fleet and the Federation. After a few incidences, the Cardassians got very tired of all this, and demanded that the Federation bring the Marquis to heel for there were several secret Marquis bases nestled within the borders of the Federation. These bases were in remote locales - didn't REALLY enjoy secretive Federation support...at least not MUCH support, but still the Marquis kept on being harassed by them.

"The Cardassians demanded, and AGAIN the parliament appeased. Star Fleet began to try to bring the Marquis to 'justice'. Again, there were those within Star Fleet who knew that this was total and utter rubbish, but they did what they felt was their duty. "The Captain of the Voyager, one Kathryn Janeway, had been tasked for something like that mandate. She was out in a nebulous region in space known as the Badlands which was the last known position of her security officer, Lieutenant Commander Tuvok, had been reported. Tovok had managed to gain the beginning of trust of a local Marquis cell, and had infiltrated them. He had been in the process of gaining more trust (so as to be in a better position to have them captured), when he and the ship he had been in.....disappeared. Janeway's job was to seek out and try to rescue (and arrest) the Marquis (and incidentally....rescue Tuvok). However, it turns out that the Voyager falls victim to the same trap that had snatched up the Marquis. A super powerful entity known as the Caretaker was dying, and was looking for some way to somehow pass on his position to another so that his wards would not be overtaken and enslaved by a local group of....what I'd term as space barbarians. The Voyager found itself on the other end of their Milky Way galaxy, seventy five years away from home at top ship speed. The transition had been extremely rough for both Marquis AND the Voyager, and some lives had been lost by both groups. The Caretaker died before it's torch could be passed, but it's wards were able to be saved from it's enemies. However, the way back home to the Federation, some type of device of the Caretaker, had to be destroyed to deny it's use to the barbarians. The Voyager and the Marquis had to join forces in order to survive and have any chance of getting home. Though their was much distrust and discontent, initially, the two crews managed to actually come together and now actually LIKE each other. The two crews became one crew."

"I see it so far," Astra says, smiling. "If these barbarians are as bad as they sound, would you want them with such a powerful tool as that teleportation device? And though it sounds a bit implausible....considering the facts, I don't have much trouble believing. After all, some of my best friends are or were dragons."

"Thanks," Demifox Synizn smiled back before continuing.

  1. "Thus began a long journey home, looking for any shortcuts and exploring this new corner of their galaxy," the little mage says. "Then, after a few years of adventure....they came across the Borg Collective...."
