Suddenly, Rubia dissappears into thin air, right from out of Fred's arms.
And then the fog swirled and condensed and grew. Fred felt a hot air blow
against him and in the misty darkness a great weight pushed itself against
him. His mind was confused and his heart frozen and all he could do was
allow himself to be buffeted by the wind and the weight, until it hit him
in the head and Fred went down into unconsciousness.
---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ---------- ------ ---- As Fred opened his eyes he felt his arms and legs restrained. His heart still ached for the sight and touch of Rubia, but he now believed that his initial assessment was correct: she had been an illusion. Fred slowly opened his eyes in order to survey his location. He beheld a cave of stone and earth, he was looking down upon the floor from a height and realized that he was chained to a wall. The only thing in the cave was a robed figure. "D'dja like the sssssshow?" it said with a strange voice. The figure moved, gracefully. It was large, some seven feet tall, and bulky. "You have funny memoriesssss," it hissed. The figure came closer to Fred, moving delicately yet with vigor. "Have you nothing to sssssay?" it asked. "I haven't cut out your tongue... yet." Fred looked at the figure. "Take off your hood so that I can see with whom I speak." It did so, and Fred shuddered. The creature had skin of scales and a snout like that of a crocodile. Its hands were clawed. "You are... you are the Dragon?!" said Fred increduously. The beast began laughing insanely. "Of courssssse not, you imbecile! I am my Massstersssss ssssservant. I am Pliskin. If I do well Massster sssshall give me your thigh to munch. I like thighsssss."
