The odd line moveth not

Fred traverses the pond, making sure he stays on dry land. He did not want
to risk tilting over and splashing as his mind obviously had been affected
when he was trapped in that room. It even made him unsure of who he was
for a second! At the far end of the cavern is a dark, thin staircase leading down. Fred slowly goes down. He continues for about ten minutes. Someone had been maintaining this area as there were no cobwebs. At the very bottom of the stairs Fred finds himself at the back of a line. Many creatures, most humanoid, are waiting patiently to get into a large, underground cathedral. Fred can see very little of the church due to the smallness of this alcove but he can tell it is very fancy. The support pillars are carved and the bit of the windows he can see show stained glass, a rarity in his land. Fred touches the shoulder of the thing in front of him. It is green, with scales and has five legs. No clothing is apparent. It's one head turns all the way around. "Greetings, sir. Might you tell me what you are waiting for?" The thing laughs and says...
