Fred slays the dragon but suffers.

Due to odd magic, Fred finds himself right next to the dragon. He lurches
forward and drives his sword deep into the dragon's brain. It dies. But random muscle twitches cause it's paws and claws to flail. Fred's left leg is cleanly lopped off at the thigh. Belboz happens by later and uses his magic to stabalize Fred. Our hero keeps calling the wizard 'Mommy' and asking for beer. This incongurity makes Belboz smile. Once the knight is stable, he is zapped back to the castle. Fred is too out of it to notice the strain of the spell. The court doctor, Senior Wenseclas, takes over Fred's case personally. Fred is in for a long recovery. It takes weeks before he is even able to walk again. The pain of his phantom limb sometimes becomes unbearable. He has to be careful all the time for even getting a slight bit of dirt in the wound could cause all sorts of fevers. One good piece of news comes by. The recovery team sent by the King to get the dragon's skull and treasure and kidnapped maidens finds Fred's leg! It is preserved in a solution Wenseclas calls 'Preserving Solution' (he's a good doctor but not very imaginative). Fred keeps it in his bedroom closet. Since Fred can no longer fight, he becomes a drill instructor for the new recruits for the army. One fine day he recieves the scummies, stupidest-looking bunch of slack- jawed yokels ever. One brown-haired idiot even asks him when they could go into town to pick up wenches.
