In For A Penny, In For A Pound...

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 5407

"Well, might as well finish the job now." stated Fred matter-of-factly as he lined up his blade with the woman's right ankle.

"Get away from me you lunatic!" screamed the handless maiden, slapping at his legs with her bloody stumps. "Fear not, my dear, for soon you shall be free!" declared Fred, bringing his sword above his head, ready to strike.

Suddenly, a huge blast of wind catapulted Fred off his feet and sent his head smashing into the opposite wall. His vision swirled, and unconsciousness threatened like a badger in heat. Through his filmy eyes, Fred could see an old robed man jogging down the tunnel towards the woman. "I heard your pain." the old man muttered as he knelt down by the warrior woman, who was now unconscious. Picking up her severed hand, he pressed it against the stump of her arm. With a single incomprehensible word and a flick of his finger, the limb glowed pure white, healing seamlessly. The mage did the same with her other hand. Then, standing up, he waved his hand lazily in the direction of the wall. Instantly the woman's limp body rose from the ground and pressed itself against the wall of the tunnel. Her arms rose above her head, the chains once again clamping themselves around her wrists. She did not stir.

The mage turned to Fred, and Fred saw that he was not happy. Contorted with rage, his face was purple, his eyes glowing a blood red colour.

"You...." hissed the mage, striding towards Fred, his bony finger of untold power pointed at Fred's chest.

"Er....now, see here...." began Fred, but was interrupted by an enormous ! CRACK! and a blinding green light that shot from the mage's finger into Fred's chest. A moment, of pure, unfiltered agony blasted Fred's nerves, and he screamed even as unconsciousness claimed him.

When Fred came to, he knew not how long had passed since his encounter with the mage. All he knew was that....

  1. ...he was now in a small, rectangular box, made of wood. It was about seven feet long and two feet wide. It was pitch dark.
  2. ...he was now chained to the wall, opposite the imprisoned maiden.
  3. ...he was now a stick insect, inside a small test tube.
  4. ...he was now inside a massive cavern, inside a strange stone circle.
  5. ...those tigers on the other side of the huge cage looked rather hungry.
