Synizn and the Malachi Dronocis

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 4595

Dark skinnned guards, armed with the traditional sword (and the nontraditional firearms a certain young lady had dreamed up) opens the gold and jeweled doors.

Sigin straightens his rune embroidered robes, makes an abortive attempt to neaten up hair that now laughs at all attempts at using combs and brushes, and steps through.

"Malachi," whispers the demifox through the muzzle of his hybrid form as his eyes fall upon her in her human form.

An idle part of his mind keeps going over, for some strange reason, how a wyrm is able to assume many shapes, including the form of smaller dragons (saves on the expense of moving into larger and larger caverns/lairs). Why he thinks of this at this time, he couldn't say. Maybe it has something to do with the inane things people say and do upon being faced with....wondrous things.

In his mind, he knows that this....analog....isn't his fallen Leader of his Dragon Circle.....isn't the dear friend that has stood by him through centuries through times of trouble and joy. This wasn't the one who, as a last act no only helped a dragon slayer and an Amazon princess....but him as well.

His mind knew, but his heart only knew that this was Malachi, long friend and confidant, somehow returned from the beyond! His eyes didn't either, since.....tears were coming out and trailing down his furry cheek ruffs.

He knew this, and cared not as the rather plain looking figure....dressed in regal clothing and crown....leaned down and hugged the little demifox. She hugged him, for she knew that the former dragon needed it, badly.

Through her link to the land, she has a bit of empathic ability. Thus, she knows that this has been building for a bit now within the little fox before her.

Between the stress of his lost battle with the Dragonness Moreau, being forced to bow to the nature of his demifox body, finding that the same thing had befallen his dear human and dragon friend after Moreau had transformed them.....and then the emotional impact of seeing a person who looked like his dearest friend had broken down Synizn's self control.

After a few minutes, a somewhat embarrassed Synizn sniffles and wipes his eyes with the back of his furry hands.

"I'm....sorry for that display," Synizn says, composing himself.

"Don't apologize," Malachi says gently. "From what I've heard, you've been through a fair bit of trouble. It isn't like you need to hide you emotions.....with me."

"But....you aren't the....." Synizn protest.

"Ah....but I am....in a sense," Malachi says, explaining. "I'm somebody who.....is very much like the one you knew back where you are from. See, it appears that something in the slipgates brings together like minded analogs....with the occasional opposite to....make things interesting."

"Yes.....Black Astra had mentioned something about this....before you called me to here," the demifox says, hears twitching in intrigue. "That's why so many similar....events....have been happening. "That and something about this....Criteria also seems to account for why......"

"So many Astras and Fred having children," Malachi sighs. "In addition to falling in love with each other for the most part....with one exception. Even then.....that Fred fell in love with his children at first sight...."

Synizn looks a bit uncomfortable, and Malachi pats Synizn's hand in reassurance.

"I'm not hinting that you should keep the kits, Syn," Malachi says gently. "I understood why Astra 1 didn't do it....to an extent. I have a pretty good idea why, for unlike Sigin.....your mate didn't gain sentience.....and this leaves you with several mouths to feed if the Pack doesn't adopt them.....and you know within you heart....."

"I can't raise them....and keep my promise to Fred.....Fred 4 and Astra 4" Synizn muttered. "That, and I didn't ask for the kits. Unlike what happened with them the first time, I........" Synizn stops and tries again.

"Malachi, while I was a were-bear, I sired several children," Synizn explained (for he felt this was needed). "Because that was all under the influence of the beast within, I couldn't feel anything particularly special about them.

"If it had happened through somebody I at least had some type of feelings.....a friend at least like what happened with Fred.....Fred 4 and Astra 4 I could get around the feeling of....resentment at what I had been forced to do!" Synizn said sadly. "I know that it wasn't the little ones fault for what happened, but the feelings are there, then and now."

Synizn draws a breath, and sighs.

"At least Fred and Astra forgave me for me failing.....for being fooled by Moreau," Synizn muttered. "By Tiamat! She never showed that much cunning in the past!"

"We.....never really had a good feel on her," Malachi says comfortingly. "She always seemed to be a background character....where Minestus was always the dynamic one. We had more information in our little 'chess matches' with him in particular than the others. But now, all that has changed and so far it looks like all of 'my' Minestus' Dragon Circle have either dissolved or been destroyed"

(Author note: they all got burned to a crisp in the Enemy nuclear attack).

  1. "And speaking of changing....." Malachi says, coming to the second part of why she called Synizn.
