The Maid, The Mop, and the Sand

Fred looked up and down the beach. He wanted to find someone who knew this place, and could provide an explanation for all this, and assure him that we was not going mad.

He started walking. After a while, he found someone bent over. Fred waved, and called out. That person stopped. Fred rushed over.

Fred found a young woman dressed in a long black dress, and apron, and a bonnet. She was carrying a mop, and was apparently trying to scrub the sand off the beach.

"Hi, I am Fred."

"Hello, Fred."

"Miss, I seem to be having a problem with all this sand...."

"Tell me about it. I am working a six month contract with six of my collegues to get rid of it all. Our clients are a Mr. Walrus and Mr. Carpenter. I do not see how we are going to do it."

"Oh," said Lord Fred, doubting whether this lady was quite sane herself.

"Would you care for some oysters? Walrus and Carpenter brought some down this morning. They taste good, especially with some of this bread, pepper, and vinegar."
