Fred and the rat-man, whom Fred calls 'Rikki' because he can't pronounce
his full name, come to an odd sight. An array of ropes set thirty feet out
from an enormous water fall. A mile high and it vanished deep into the
darkest, widest um...deepest hole Fred had ever seen. It was a thousand
feet wide if it was an inch. Fred and Rikki clambered onto the ropes. Fred expressed astonishment for the way the ropes were arranged made traveling as easy as pie. Then he noticed the wooden platform in the middled of the web. "Let me guess!" Fred shouted over the roar of the falls. "We lowere ourselves down?" "Not really!" cried Rikki. "It's more automatic then anything! Johnny sacrificed a finger to power the magic but it's okay, it was an extra finger anyway and had to come off." So soon the two stood on a wooden platform ten feet wide. The five foot high railings were wrought iron metal, carved with vague shapes that seemed to be knights fighting other knights. Or buxom maidens doing things that belonged in the bedroom if he looked at it right. The hole above was soon lost to view. Five more minutes and a gleam of light from below. Fred readied himself for anything as the platform and the ground slowly met. Around him was...
