Staring into the stone for what must have been an eternity, Fred strained to recollect every last detail of the Shapeshifter's transformation he witnessed as a child. Every gesture, every word spoken. At last, he decided the flourishing of the magician's cape, which was done in a manner that resembled a bird spreading it's wings, bore the most significance towards the transformation. Producing a towel from his bag, Fred tied it 'round his neck like a cape, turning his face red at the thought of how foolish he must look. Standing the the center of the room, he thought of the bird the Shapeshifter changed into ages ago and akwardly tried to duplicate the magician's bow. The air thickened and pressed against his face, restricting his breath. He frantically tried to take in air, and felt his lips painfully hardening into what he thought must be a beak. Feathers burst through his skin, and blood with them. Each one was like a needle bursting outwards through his flesh, and the trickles of blood rolling down his body told him they wounded like needles. He dropped to the ground and unsucessfully tried to scream. Damned fool! he thought, Meddling with magical trinkets you have no knowledge of! Get yourself killed trying to become a bird! I don't want this! I want to be human! I want this to stop! STOP! Suddenly, Fred found he could breathe freely again. He bit his lips, and lips they were. Feeling his face, he felt nothing but human flesh. Removing his chain mail and shirt, however, he found innumerable cuts where feathers had burst through, and some feathers still stuck inside his flesh. I'll just pluck them out. I'll pluck them out if I don't bleed to death first. Struggling over to his knapsack, Fred began to bandage himself.
