Stupid Mutt

Lord Fred was never much of a dog person, and once you got around to talking dogs, they really got on his nerves. When it came to talking dogs who attacked him in a dragon's lair and caused him to cry out loudly enough to wake said dragon, well Fred just didn't want anything to do with them.

With swift jerk of his leg, Fred sent Vellus sailing across the room. He didn't see what happened next, because he was already high-tailing it back down the tunnel away from the dragon. The painful yelping led him to believe, though, that the dog didn't make it.

But a small dog was unlikely to occupy the dragon's time for long. Since Fred didn't want to be eaten himself (or turned into another intelligent talking animal), he had to think quickly about how to escape the great beast.

1. Fred continued running, hoping to reach the front door before the dragon.
2. Fred looked for someplace he could hide until the dragon leaves.
3. Fred pulled out the dagger he kept sheathed in his boot and turned to face the dragon.
