The Natural Result of a Hangover

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 34360

Astra weighed about twice as much as Checkers, was more solidly built (Glider bodies had to be light in order to fly), and most importantly, was not fighting a headache. Checkers would have been wiser to elude Astra, who was still trying to steady herself after being locked in handcuffs, but she charged. Astra grabbed onto the wings, easily flung Checkers to the ground, and quickly pinned her. The only consolation for Checkers was that she instinctively spread her wings and legs out, cushioning the fall.

Astra now had her knees across Checkers' chest, and her arms holding down her wings. She looked into Checkers' eyes, and could see that she had given up.

"Now," said Astra, "Give me one reason that I should not kill you."

"It might be a good idea, come and think of it. If you do, though, could you do it quietly? This headache is horrible. I left some medicine at home." Checkers used home in its broadest sense, meaning 'as opposed to this God forsaken place.'

"You look pretty pathetic, you know that?"

"Well, I wasn't the one who was in chains just now. I was just minding my own business, exploring the western lands on the order of my superiors, and suddenly this old man snatches me out of a native ritual that I was participating in. It is not like he sent an invitation. I killed the man and his henchman out of self-defense."

  1. Astra tries to make a peace offering by saying four words.
  2. Astra makes a demand of Checkers.
