Fred lifted his head drearily from the sand. Some poured out of his ear. About ten feet away were a scattering of smashed boards. One long one, broken down it's length, had writing on it.
Fred brought himself to his feet and looked around. He had landed on a beach for sure. To the north, along the beach with the water at the right, lay fields and trees. To the south, with the water on the left, was a large mountain range. Fred could see that the tops were hale and hearty, so maybe he wasn't on an island after all. A cool breeze rustled the nearby plants. A lone cloud marred the otherwise glass-like perfection of the blue sky. Fred remembered the debris and trotted over. He held the board to the light and, even though he only had the top half of the letters he could tell it read...
