The spell does not help little Velus.

Velus howled in grief and looked at Fred with moist puppy eyes.

"Ah yes." the old man said suddenly, grinning from ear to ear. "The melons of Aqualaria! I remember them so well. They came in so many sizes! You could just lie back and eat them all day long. But alas." he sighed. "I've passed on in years, and such pleasures are no longer for me. My toothless mouth could not even puncture the hard outer shell now."

Fred looked at him with hope. "Old man! Have you regained your wits?"

"Of course, Daisy, my sweet little kitty-cat!" the old man gurgled, patting Fred on the head. "I had them in my pocket the whole time. When did you learn to talk so well? Follow me, and I'll give you some warm milk to drink."

The old man turned around and started shambling down a side corridor.

1. Fred follows the mad old man.
2. Association with the insane can only lead to grief. Fred leaves by the way he came.
