The dragon is surprised that Fred agrees with him and they both go into
an in-depth discussion on what options the Riders have. At the end of the
conversation they had become fast friends. Fred wonders how he ever was sent to get rid of this friendly dragon. Has there been a misunderstanding? He tells the dragon his mission. The dragon was not surprised. "Yes, I have been going around and eating things... and people, but a dragon's got to sustain himself, you know." Fred sympathizes with the dragon and decides to help it. He asked it whether there was anything he could do to get the dragon to stop preying on people. The dragon reveals to him that the reason that lately it has been so active is because the wildlife it used to hunt has been disappearing, and it does not know why. Fred realizes that the dragon's behavior is only the expression of a deeper problem. "What should I do...?" he wonders.
