Avoiding the Temple

Lord Fred resisted the urge to go into the temple, because his urge to find
food was still much more pressing. As he edged his way around the wall
surrounding the temple, he couldn't help noticing the plants look more and
more appetising, despite his knowledge that they were poisonous.
At this point, he heard the sound of twigs cracking, and for the first time noticed the form following him. He still couldn't make out the shape, and he wasn't at all sure whether the ten minutes of thought by the temple gates had been a mistake. He tried to pick up the pace a little, but the hunger was becoming quite oppressive, and he stumbled and fell to the ground. Breathless, he pondered his next move. He had no weapons and, abandoned temple notwithstanding, isolated from civilization.
