If this should destroy you, then your faith is weak....

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 24705

Synizn

One thing being that very meeting by magic mirror I'd just mentioned. So with that, let me tell you about what I and the others (various Sigins and Synizns) talked about!

"....and of course that is he was able to get farther than others in that question," Synizn 2 (the one who'd joined up with the Timelord called the Doctor) finishes off in an almost annoying voice as he smiled at me. "While you, I and the others versed in magery kept coming upon contradictory answers, why not use a science based approach to solve one of the most controversial questions to arise in recent times on Terra Prime!"

It had always been bandied about by some of the more radical elements within the magic using community. It was especially appealing to the gryphon, who's very legends tell them that their origins were not of natural selection but of Atlantian design. For a long time they'd said if they came from unnatural origins why not some of the other non- human races.

It had come up while we had discussed the favorite spells our apprentices (past and present) liked to cast. Sigin had mentioned that both Betty and Ragan in particular seemed to shy away from the more lethal varieties of magic, concentrating more on sleep based spells (or other non- lethal based spells) than anything else.

Must say that says good things about their character. Rather like them for that, really.

But as it stood that was something Sigin 2 used to eases us into the very thing for discussion for this week.

Now, the reason why the Doctor had not done this before was something of a courtesy to the other researchers like myself and the scientist (who come in droves to Terra Prime) in order to unlock this most perplexing world.

Terra Prime bringing to it the best and brightest minds..... She does have that habit and that appeal, must admit.

Ah, but that said, the Timelord also didn't just unilaterally do it out of the shock the possible truth could do to the world view of those involved, the non-human races.

Well, in the end his adoptive father, Trilling Blackfeather, talked him into it after the other mages and scientist failed. In the end, all efforts short of what he had available failed to uncover conclusive evidence....

.....

Some of the more foolhardy Star Fleeter types (against regulations, believe me) had been rumored to had gone so far as to actually use the more primitive (comparatively) means available to the Doctor....

That might explain some of the more perplexing legends of Terra Prime, I guess. Also probably explains, those legends, their fates.

The past on Terra Prime can be such a dangerous place, especially around the time of Atlantis! Wouldn't be too surprised to find out that the re-scrambled results of some of the "luckier" researchers having mixed their bloodlines with Trilling's bloodline (as well as perhaps others of those of Eternity Incorporated).

Yes, I speak of the theory that the non-human races actually had been created (or perhaps recreated) from another species entirely, in part or in whole. In this case what the Doctor observed (with his TARDIS de- materialized) seems to points towards strongly in favor of that theory (proposed after uncovering some recent Atlantian relics).

It seems to follow something similar to what had been witness on Nantucket Earth....except it had been done on a planetary scale (with NO regards to the indigenous native humans).

Now, as we all now Terra Prime bears, geographically speaking, a remarkable resemblance to those worlds called Earth. The other Terras (a lot of them) do not, but Prime does and the reason for that is rather.....bleak. See, Terra Prime had been actually a parallel world up until the Atlantians came into the scene. That vanished world had been in the middle of the Dark Ages, I was told, when the Atlantians did what amounted (thousands of years ago, local calendar) to terra-forming the entire planet , reshaping and shifting the very ground miles down in the process (but leaving the general overall shape and such of the land the same).

Why I don't know, but I guess they did it for...."artistic" reasons.

Ah, yes, the Atlantians did favor themselves as artist. Just like some Nazis might have viewed themselves as well perhaps as they did their evil. Fitting, considering that it seems to me that the evil Atlantian civilization had served as the basis for those "visions" the lunatics had of the "Aryan race".

Gives me chills....

That and makes me feel all the sorrier for the good version of Atlantis (which I feel from my research served as the model for Plato's perfect republic) that got destroyed and subsumed by their evil counterparts!

Well.....the Doctor had told of seeing some groups of humans being transformed into various new races. Elves. Dragons. Unicorns. Much more. All young children with no memory of their true past. No memories of anything before awakening, actually. Then, in what seemed to be a second wave adult versions of the newly transformed got teleported in and by default became the leaders and founding fathers (and mothers) of the new races of what we now call Terra Prime.

Yes, the things he saw seemed to point to the part of the theory of "non-human races in part coming from another species entirely". Doesn't prove enough, but still....

Wouldn't MIND being descended from humans. No blue blood shock or whatever, but still it takes a body by surprise, I fear.

Ah, but I'll get over it! Tiamat's blood! If a person's faith and belief gets shaken to the ground by something like the truth then there is something wrong if he can't adjust their view to fit the facts (or apparent facts). What's left of humanity from the Alliance/Enemy War from it coming to Terra Prime is a hardy breed indeed, as well as the non- humans who've....changed along with everyone and everything because of that....

Reminds me of a parable from the holy Writs of Tiamat: "If this should destroy you, then your faith is weak...." So if this will destroy those who we shall eventually tell, worldwide....

Nevermind, not important right now.

Well, the short of this long winded tale is this.

I chose to cast was a quick but powerful sleep based spell, almost a snap spell use decision aided by Sigin telling me about his friend....

A bit later....

The story Illura and Erica tells her still worshipful (but now better behaved) followers in this town is about how these advisors (us Champions and friends) have come to aid all in this disaster brought about "leftover magic" having gone "haywire" (not in those words but the gist) from Atlantis. We were here to try to help weather the storm, using our knowledge as "wisemen" and from study to lessen....and eventually stop the "wild surges" from warping the entirety of the world into something else.

Whopping lie, I admit. Entirely my invention, using the defunct menace of Atlantis like that. Then again, might as well use those bastards for something useful, eh?

Sets the stage for us Champions at being the advisors and being in the limelight, right?

As for the an added twist, when some of the more....fearful town members begin to back away from some nonhumans who'd been transformed a few days ago (and now needed to get needed supplies for family and farm and having nowhere else to go to get it) come trotting in (i.e. more centaurs and vixentaurs).

In the end it's kind of fitting, somehow, to tell the "norms" how these "non-humans" haled from human stock. Kind of like coming full circle, a former dragon with maybe some human blood in him somewhere, telling them the business....

Meanwhile, however, back with those "mystery mages", they were in discussion about recent events (some staring at some of the now rather...changed members).....

Elsewhere

A meeting is taking place, and it has gotten a bit heated in places. As luck has it, the "quasi-religious" conversion hadn't hit (or if it did it didn't stick). Would be too easy, naturally, for the Champions, if it had, eh?

  1. This meeting has been called by "the opposition" as it were. You know, those "mystery mages"! They were in discussion about recent events (some staring at some of the now rather...changed members).....
