The Luck Turns

Seems that Eric has been released and is on his way back to the capital, a journey that will take him and his escort the best part of a week. Once there, he will resume his reign. That is what we had hoped to hear, of course, so why do I have this niggling feeling that something is about to go catastrophically wrong?

Three days later:

Well, unfortunately it seems that my premonition was accurate. The luck with how the chaos energy had manifested itself had seemed to be running in our favour up till now, but perhaps it was too good to last. I'd expected that anything more that happened would have centred around here, as that's where those who are the unwitting importers of the chaos energy are to be found. Well, for whatever reason, that wasn't the case this time.

Synizn managed to speak to the mage in Daria's capital again just a few hours ago, only to find him in a state of shock. He had just had a message from the mage with Eric's party. Apparently every member of the party, including Eric himself, had undergone a change of sex!

That means that we have to reconsider our plan. Though women in general do not have much in the way of rights in Daria, there is no prohibition on having a Queen on the throne. No, the problem will lie in Erica proving that she is really Eric, and thus the rightful monarch. The members of the travelling party could vouch for her identity, which might be enough, except that having all been transgendered they can't prove who they are either. No-one is likely to believe such a tall story as the one that they will tell, for all that it is true.

Perhaps we should go back to our contingency plan if we had found out that Eric was dead, of putting Illura on the throne of Daria as well as of Zendara. With Eric, Samuel, her own father and Aaron all out of the running for one reason or another, she would have the strongest claim.

1. But whilst that might be the practical solution, it doesn't seem like a very ethical one. Also putting Illura on the throne would turn a likely ally in Eric/Erica into a likely enemy.
