Meetings by moonlight

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 20988

Jarlath curses under his breath as he spots the new arrival. As if things weren't complicated enough already.

Now, looking back at what happens next must harken back to that one story my husband's analog brother told us about awhile ago. Yes, that business back in the Red Pyramid. Jarlath 2 had been so very polite when he'd tried to get the other's attention (re: 15239). Hadn't worked worth a d....er....well. Let us just say that there are times for being quietly polite and times for being rudely loud!

Jarlath seems to have taken that he's taken that particular lesson to heart as he sees the group of riders coming up over the ridge that Rebecca had traveled.

"SILENCE!" he shouts, his magically enhanced voice echoing off into the distance.

Remind me to never let my husband see Dune again....

We'd only seen it because Inquirer had perked our interest when she had vehemently thanked the Creator (her religion's God) that she and the rest had never come across a reality that reflected that AI/cybernetic hating story....

Astra 9

By God, I do wish sometimes my husband would give more warning when he has a fit of inspiration....

"Thank goodness we can recover from any injury!" I whisper, ears ringing still, "Else we'd probably be permanently deaf!"

Oh, that was an overstatment....but Jarlath had been loud there all the same....

....

Then again.....ringing ears aside (and Cuthbert muttering curses as he glances back at Jarlath)....it appears that my husband's rather authority filled voice has caused both the charging person before us and behind us to draw up in surprise!

Simple spell though it was, it shows that we are more than we appear and should be handled very carefully.

Jumping on the chance, Cuthbert gets Jarlath to "transfer" that magically enhancement to him.

"WELL A DAY!" he calls playfully out (in the manner he had done so in so many Stephen King novels) out to the still milling strangers, "WHAT BRINGS YOU OUT ON THIS FINE NIGHT?"

The playfulness in his voice then falls away as he then warns in no uncertain that any hostility will be met out with all due lethal force. The Champions do allow the others to approach close enough to answer (and close enough for Cuthbert's revolvers if necessity dictated). As it soon develops, both would be rescuers soon see each other well enough that at least some in the other side . . . .

Things are tense and strange enough as it stands

"Should I know you?" Rebecca calls out to one, puzzlment being added to her strange situation with these . . odd people she'd met from those magic carpets . . . .

As of yet she had no real idea what part they played in all this, really. Maybe if she had time to reflect it would occur to her what this all meant, but not right now. Things were happening too fast for that!

Now, not being recognized by Rebecca is bad enough for Aaron. It is jarring. Aaron had recognised Rebecca when he got a good look at her and had called out to her in suprise, expecting her to recognize him in return. Reasonable, since she could very well see him as well as he could see her! But since he can now as well as recognising Illura, since Rebecca's his cousin and Illura's his sister. . . is probably frightening (even for this brave man).

Remember, before that nameless Author had interfered, he had found her dead corpse on the field of ruin...

  1. "What in God's name?" he whispers, shocked. Cuthbert is also taken aback when he recognizes Illura, truth be told. She had been dead back during his "briefing", of course...
