Fred and Astra groaned inwardly. They could not afford the delay that the
round trip would entail,
if they were to get to Synizn in time to be cured. However, the only
alternative seemed
to be a trial that was almost certain to be rigged against them. Fred saw
Astra nod
almost imperceptibly. He could guess what she was thinking. Once they were
out of the
cell and had left the city walls behind, the two of
them should be capable of turning the tables on the avaricious lawyer.
Fred and Astra found there was a slight complication. Rift insisted on bringing along his dwarf servant, whom apparently he totally trusted. Provisions were obtained, and soon the part set off, Fred and Astra on their charger, Rift on his horse and the dwarf on a pony. When dusk fell, they made camp for the night. This was when Fred and Astra would have to make their move.
