Looking for Citizen Synizn

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1709

Frederigo and Astra awoke to the smells of roasting goose eggs, sizzling boar buttocks and day old beer. They left their bed, dressed and soon found themselves at at table in the Goat-Head Tavern. Yes, it was a dive, but hey, it was cheap!

Few customers were present this early in the morning; only two other couples sat at table, three men were hunched over at the bar, and a tall dwarf was staring out the window. Fred and Astra were glad for this, they wished few to see them in their current form. Finally a barwench came over to the Knight and warrior Princess.

"How may I help ye alle this morn'?" she asked in a spritely voice. She seemed to not notice how 'different' they were, or she simply ignored it.

"What's your specialty?" asked Frederigo.

"Why it's nothing more nor less than grilled codhead smothered in a fine pork sauce with a huge helping o' goose shells and a pinch o' bloodroot."

Fred looked at Astra and said: "We'll have turkey eggs, a slice of veal and a cup of green tea."

"Newlyweds, eh?" remarked the wench and trotted off to the kitchens. Meanwhile Fred and Astra locked eyes. He had answered for her not out of any feelings of love, but rather because it had always been expected in the Great Kingdom that men led while women followed. He hoped that Astra would not mind.

Until the return of the wench with their meal they remained silent, both in deep thought. And indeed, the Lady Astra had a pissed look most aweful to behold. Finally the lass did return and placed their food on the table. "If'n ye needs anything else, just call out fer me; most just call me Al."

After a less than decent meal the duo waited at the bar for the one called Synizn. Though they had never seen him they knew that he was male, a mage of great ability, and a large were-bear (though usually hidden under the form of a gruff mountain-man).

They waited all morning and all afternoon, they waited and waited. They slept in the Goat-Head Tavern for three days and felt each one pass as if they were the last days of their lives. Finally, on the fourth day, a mountain-man appeared within the tavern and Lord Frederigo watched bemused as the barkeep did all he could to keep up with the great man's appetite for liquor. Once the grizzled mass of a man sat with a satisfied look upon his face, Lord Fred approached.

"Hello, good sir," began Fred.

The big man broke out laughing. "And who in tarnations are ye, little fox?!"

Fred felt his hackles rise in fear. Worry over being accused of working as servants of the Dragon Moreau troubled him greatly. He panted ever so slightly and answered: "I am a nobleman of the Great Kingdom and I seek your aid."

The mountain man looked at Fred with keen eyes. "Do ye now? Who do ye think I am oh nobleman of the Great Kingdom?"

"Why, you are...you are Mage Synizn the Great."

"Am I?" he replied.

  1. What ensued next seemed to be a game of "Twenty Questions."
