New direction into chaos

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 1670

Fred's new direction wasn't exactly his best idea ever.
The ground fell away. Fred screamed as he plunged fifteen feet. Then he hit some wood hard and greyed out.
Sometime later he coughed. He spat out pheghm, coughed again and his body started registering sensations. He was cold. Cold and damp. Water splashed around him. He was moving. Fred rolled over.
He was on a raft. A raft twenty feet wide, two feet thick and floating down a water filled tunnel. A mast rose out of the middle of the raft and held a silver and green lantern. Someone had spent some time crafting a support for the light. Polished wood, nails, a smoothed hook for the lantern to hang from...clearly a skilled carpeneter.
Fred realized he was damn lucky he didn't impale himself on the darned thing.
He sat up. The cavern walls were five feet away on both sides. The rough, damp ceiling was at least twenty feet above the raft.
Fred brought his feet in. He wanted to be ready in case something happened. Who knew where the raft was taking him?

  1. Fred floated on four hours.
  2. Suddenly a hatch in the wall opened and two people tumbled out onto the raft.
  3. The raft began to move faster. Fred grabbed the mast.
  4. The raft fetched up against a gate. To the right was a ramp leading into darkness. Fred removed the lantern and exited the raft.
  5. The raft slowed, stopped then began to move backwards.
