Clang!

"You're just jumping at shadows," one of them was saying. "Pure paranoia. The situation is as stable as it ever gets, I tell you. At least between those two. No, the ones we really need to be worried about are..."

Fred was so eager not to lose the voices and miss what was about to be said next that, in his haste to follow them, he tripped suddenly over something in the passageway. His armor and sword made a horrible clang on the bare stone floor. Suddenly, the voices stopped.

1. Fred lay utterly still, hoping the owners of the voices would ignore the sound.
2. Fred leapt to his feet and prepared to confront the people he'd been following.
