Fred makes a mistake. He saw the light and moved toward it, but by the
time he realized it was the wrong light, he feared toward the right
light. The girl followed without assistance, not knowing either
light. As Fred came down the channel, he saw the source of the light: a bright, magically glowing rock hanging from the top of the cave. Just beyond the rock Fred sees a large whole in the ground ten feet in diameter. Through it travel gondolas on a pulley system. Empty gondolas travel down, while the ones full of dirt travel up. The gondolas move in steady procession up and down the hole, and then disappear up in another hole in the roof. Fred can feel tremendous heat rising from the bottomless pit. "It's the dragon," the girl explains. "He wants to find the source of the heat. We must destroy his operation!" Just then a man at the side of the pit with a black hood and pants spots them. "Who are you?!," he demands, approaching with whip in hand. Without pausing to answer, Fred draws and cuts the man's belly open with his sword. The man falls in an empty gondola going down. Fred looks and sees two exits to the room.
