As the corridor descended ever downward, it got hotter and hotter. Astra was sweating
profusely (her education had been deficient, and so she didn't realise that princesses
were not supposed to sweat). At least it was a dry heat, or the temperature of 120
degrees Fahrenheit or so might have caused even one as fit as she to collapse. The
ends of the bandages were a nuisance, tending to come unwrapped and threatening to
trip her up. Because of this, and because the bandages added to her
discomfort from the heat, eventually she removed them. Much more than again being nude,
her lack of a weapon worried her. She should have asked Fred for his sword, she
thought. After all, what danger could he find in a library.
Eventually the tunnel led into a large cavern. In its centre was:
