Well, our heroes travel on....but soon are finding themselves unable to
make
really good progress down (bad trails and rough terrain
hampering efforts in that
area). So, when a mysterious doorway opens in the side of the mountain on the trail they are shivering on opens and heat comes out.....the heroes run in. Much more of this, and they'll die of exposure!! The door snaps close and they are facing a set of surprised people. Some look exactly like them (with different hair styles, height, and a few other minor things). Some turn out to be demifoxes (what they find out later). More isn't said because the vixen, also named Astra (!) cries out as her water....er.....breaks.
