The small skiff moved without rope or guide. Fred wondered if it was
piloted by dead spirits, or worse... With a slushing sound the skiff hits
the wet earth near Fred, it stopped, and Fred had the crazy idea it was
waiting for him.
If this was a trick of the Dragon, it was an odd one. Or perhaps not. The mystical chest had endowed him with the famed Flamebane and so perhaps the monster wished to see him drowned. Fred shook his head, surely it did not know of his presence... yet. He recalled what he had learned of the Beast, the Teachers in Caemlyn had spent many moons going over it thoroughly. The Dragon is an ancient creature, do not be fooled. It is not an animal, it is a force of Nature. What dreadful cadre of gods could have imagined it into Being, who knows? But It exists. Only the pure can kill such a Thing, those with evil in their heart will be swayed by the evil of the Beast, for them all is lost, either in death or in slavery to It. The Dragon has power, even as a hurricane or a rainstorm. But even as a well- built roof can withstand the showers and a cellar can save from the violent winds, the Dragon can be bested as well... Lord Frederigo D'Honaire looked about him once again, shaking his reverie. The fog was deep and he still could see neither walls nor ceiling, nor any other feature but for the water that stretched into the mist. All was fog and water.
