"Fred? Oh Fred?!?" A lovely redhaired woman in a short purple frock was calling to him. Her voice was plaintive as she called his name. Beside her was a plain, bespectacled girl in orange, a lanky man in green, and a dog. Frederigo turned around. "'Tis I, but who calls my name?" He walked toward the woman in purple. The creature was staring at them both. "Fred? Is that you?" the woman asked. "Fred, I am. But be careful, dear lady, for the fog and the mists are forbidding places." "Huh!?" asked the man in green. "Fred, you're talking funny. Are you sure you didn't get into my stash?" "Halt, peasant!" Fred snapped back. "I know not of which you speak, but I tell you there are dangers here. That creature in the skiff. The dragon prowling around." The dog looked up in horror "Ragon? Romeone ray 'ragon'?" He began to whimper. Fred gave the dog a dismissive look. "I fear that your canine is ill- equipped to handle the demands of a dog of his breeding," he scoffed. The woman in orange petted the dog. "Cheer up, Scoob. Fred didn't mean it?" She popped an odd-looking biscuit in the dog's mouth. "Pshaw!" Frederigo replied. "Why does this dog not rush forward bravely into the battle fray? Why does he cower behind his master and his mistresses?" "Raster? Ristresses?" "And how can this animal talk, anyhow?" "I wouldn't know, Fred, but we've got to get back to the Mystery Machine," the man in green replied. "For one thing, it's spooky out here. I want to be back in the van...where it's safe." He began to sniffle and whimper. "Oh my," Frederigo sighed. "How did two delicate ladies such as these end up in the care and guardianship of two cowards such as yourself and this talking dog?" "Quit picking on Shag and Scoob, Fred!" the lady in purple snapped. "We've got a mystery to solve!" "And I think I know just who did it," the woman in orange added. And so...
