The women's curiosity got the better of them, so Louise picked up the lantern and they went inside. It soon became apparent why it was so dark inside: heavy curtains were drawn across all the windows. "Why keep the curtains drawn, when it's a sunny day outside?" Sigourney asked, as she found her way to the nearest window by the dim light of the lantern and pulled back the drape.

In the light of day they saw:

  1. A beautiful but deathly pale woman, lying on a bed. Woken by the light, she said: "What do you mean by waking me up so disgustingly early?"
  2. An elegantly dressed man lying in a coffin, who was writhing in apparent agony. "A vampire!" Louise said.
  3. That they were in the kitchen.
