Rewards and Silence

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 13036

Abbot then makes a snap decision...

It takes some doing, but the Sneakers get basically what their movie counterparts got from the NSA at the end.

But the deviation from the movie is the fact in to make sure that the Sneakers don't get "wacked" by the Cabal within the NSA (those fun loving people who'd actually had funded the making of the Item in the first place)..... The Sneakers join the NSA in an unofficial, secretive capacity. it was the only way that Abbot was able to actually keep them and his comrades (and himself...for the matter) alive and well. With the Sneakers within the NSA's fold, Abbot was able to protect them (resources were able to be used in this endevour that wouldn't otherwise be available).

Neither Bishop nor Abbot were happy about it, but reality is reality....and necissity makes for strange bedfellows.

On another note, Cosmo get's his dues when the fiddling that Elrondir (who'd asked to have a bit of time with Cosmo's computer terminal) did leaves "paper" trail that leads to the clearing of Bishop's name of murder....and a contract by the Mafia for Cosmo's skimming off of the Mob's money.....

Anyway, what sold Bishop, however, about the sincerity of the NSA was the actual Leader of the inner circle of Abbot's group. It made more than a few jaws drop, but made Mother smile and say "I told you so about him and the NSA and the Houston shooting!"

They also kept an eye out for any other signs of the Doctor. While it looked like he'd gone and done with the Item was honorable and all that....there is a saying in the NSA (as seen in Enemy of the State). "In God we trust.....in all others we monitor!"

Paranoid? Maybe, but then a little suspicion is called for in intelligence work.

That aside, Abbot is soon bemoaning the recent passing of a trusted and valued secret ally in Congress....and the apparent approaching day that he and his secret group within the NSA had prayed wouldn't happen.

Hammersly, a Republican (like in the movie Enemy of the State) is dead and the bill he'd opposed looked now a cinche to pass into law. It was happening years later....in the year 1999.

Inside the TARDIS, between years....

"We need to talk to your friend from the company who made Torg." Inquirer says, "While the old Torg books are okay....the stuff you told me of finally tempted me into wanting to take one last side trip to Washington DC. He'd gone on a trip to check on some business about the bankruptcy. Back then, it looked like things would have still be happening...."

"And thus he'd be in a good enough mood to share some gaming info for old friends and associates?" Betty guess. "I suppose. Seems like a better idea than just telling him the out and out truth. I could see what he'd say if Inquirer approached him...."

  1. Immortal cyborges with a bunch of fantasy and science fictional characters....oh my! Too much like Torg already!
