Abbot Recalls California......

The Never Ending Quest - Episode 12265

Abbot sighed and looked back a few years in his mind, back to that fiasco in California over the "Item" back in 1992.....

Mr. Abbot, slipping a switch to turn off the fire detectors before they could activate (for just these kind of photography burning situations), then places the burning photos in a nearby trashcan.

Abbot watches the pictures of figures that look to be a splitting image of Sigourney Weaver (star of the Aliens movies) and of Jon Pertwee (a star from a British science fiction show called Doctor Who).

Unbeknownst to him, Inquirer and the Doctor had made the majority of the ATM withdaws, figuring correctly that if there was anyone who'd ever checked the ATM camera records for clues at who'd been drawing from this mysterious account, they'd discount what they saw as being ridiculous. I mean who in their right mind would think that Weaver and Pertwee, famous actors, where withdrawing from secret....mysterious organizations (if that was where the money actually came from). It was just another way to cover their tracks, basically.

"Yes, best to forget about it," he mutters while remembering.

"That last little run must have been the most harrying one!" the Doctor murmurs as he sets the controls of the TARDIS, "The only good thing about being less recognizable than that Tom Baker chap is that I draw a bit less attention."

"But you seemed to have drawn enough as it was," Beety smiled, remembering the startled looks some of the English folks had upon seeing the Dcotor walk into their humble stores (along with the others of the group) and asked for rather esoteric pieces of equipment.

The Doctor put away the pen he'd used to sign the millionth autograph, wondering if the fans of this world's television show would think to find just how authentic his signature REALLY was. That is, that while he may not be the actual actor named Pertwee....but the actual Doctor!

At least when he asked later about how close his signature was to that of the human who played him in the TV show was, Betty and Ragan pronounced it being identical. Elrondir and Inquirer, being able to see samples of Pertwee's autograph (garnered from somewhere online at a Doctor Who Fan Site), said that I was a perfect match!

At least those fans won't have any complaints about authenticity, the Time Lord muses to himself.

Some shop owners had been reasonably behaved, but some......

At least they were able to get something like ninety-five percent of the shopping list of the group, but the last items of the list proved elusive. That part of the list was, of course, was Inquirer's.

"That band of equipment was discontinued back in 1992," the AI muttered in disgust. "And as it stands nobody now carries it, since it seemed to have garnered a bad reputation for glitches. By the Creator! Of course it glitched, since whoever designed it wasn't didn't put it to it's best use......"

Inquirer then smiled.

"But of course the shop owner back there said that the last he'd seen those items being on sale was a small hole in the wall of an electronics store," she smiled, "Back when he'd been on vacation in American, in San Francisco."

"Yes, back in 1992," the Doctor says warmly, "I must say that while I don't usually visit the Americas as much as England when I travel around Earth, I do have some very fond memories of the Golden Gate bridge. Lovely sight it was in the morning!"

  1. And a good location for a long overdue date, I believe, the Doctor says to himself as he sets the TARDIS towards the time/space coordinates.
