The skies rumbled with the upper region condensation, the clouds formed at
first slowly and then with more speed and finesse. It was Bob the apple-
cart guy who felt the first raindrop that fell from the sky (at least
that's how he tells it). For five days and five the nights the
skies thundered and flashed and gave forth the stuff of life.
On the sixth day a little girl went out to find her stray dog (it had actually ran away, for after the third day the little girl's baby brother had bit it's tail through, but their dad simply told his daughter that the dog had gotten lost). "Here Betsy, here girl!" called out the little girl. But no dog was found by her that day. She did find a huge hole in the ground, and piles of mud all about. She ran back home to tell her daddy. It was he who discovered the truth of the hole. "Ring the bells! Ring the bells!" he shouted from the field that held the hole. "Call the men to arms, call the Duke and his sons! Get a hold of Sir Pik!" When the crowd had gathered and at least one of the Duke's sons was present the father told of his grim discovery: "Gnomes! The Gnomes have come from their underground abode! The lightning must have attracted them, or maybe the death of the Dragon...oh, I don't know, but we've got to do something!"
